Green Energy Doors Open – Deep Green Home Renos: How-to Guide
Coolearth Architects’ Sheena Sharp and Craig England will present a case study showing how an existing Toronto brick home (above) can be made net-zero. They will also be available throughout the day for questions about sustainable improvements, renovation, and net-zero homes.
About the event:
What does it take to make an existing Toronto home net-zero? Coolearth Architects’ Sheena Sharp, and Craig England will present a case study showing how an existing Toronto brick home can be made net-zero, and answer questions about how home-owners can start making their homes net-zero. They will also be available throughout the day for questions. Integrating a net-zero energy strategy for a house in rural and suburban settings, through an energy efficient building design with the appropriate solar orientation and electricity generated with on-site renewable resources, is much simpler than trying to achieve the same in an urban context. For urban sites with insufficient solar access, the challenge resides in finding creative ways of improving solar access to those areas of the house best able to utilize passive solar heat gain and through innovations in technology that expand the options for on-site renewable generation. This presentation will help homeowners learn the strategies they can use to achieve net-zero via renovation.
